M.Tech Power Engineering is a 2-year postgraduate engineering program. Electrical Engineering is one of the most popular engineering branches that emphasizes the study and application of electricity, electronics as well as electromagnetism. The course covers topics like electronics, control systems, power engineering and power systems, circuits and microcontrollers, VLSI technology and design, industrial electrical systems, etc.
Power engineering is a very vast field of engineering and is related to the production and supply of power. It deals with all types of power production like thermal power, hydropower, solar power etc. It is a new branch, especially for students of India.
M.Tech Power Engineering imbibes in-depth knowledge of electrical components and devices in students. Upon completing the course, students can work as Power Engineers, Broadcast engineers, Telecommunication engineers, Design Engineers, Consultants, Researchers etc. The programme equips engineers with the skills necessary to understand, analyse and operate individual components relating to power systems, and their integrated and holistic functions.

Career after M.Tech Power Engineering
The job opportunity in this field is always very high due to the fact that the demand for power will never decrease. The candidates pursuing an M.Tech in Power Technology are recruited in power plants all over the country and in research labs.
Power electronics is the branch of electrical engineering which has got more demand in the future. It deals with the generation, transmission and distribution of electric power. In India, almost all major power generation companies are owned by the government. But certain companies like L&T, Tata Power, GVK, Jindal power, Reliance power, Adani power, Schneider Electric Infrastructure, Suzlon energy etc, generate and distribute by offering roles for power systems engineers.
Students acquire skills and develop professional competencies in the operation of energy power systems based on advanced intelligent technologies. They have opportunities in Government and private companies for installation, operation and maintenance of electronic equipment and systems. The course is also beneficial for further studies such as a PhD as it gives a good base for it.
